Burt W. Newsome was born in Geneva County, Alabama on September 4, 1966. He was raised in Columbus, Georgia. Burt obtained a B.S. in Finance from Troy University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. While at Troy, he was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Upsilon Sigma honor societies and was also a member of The Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity and a Senator in the Student Government Association.
Burt later attended and graduated from the Birmingham School of Law - a private law college located in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. While at BSL, Burt was named the Outstanding Freshman of the Year and graduated with honors in the top 10% of his class.
Burt worked in the banking industry for 10 years before beginning his law practice. While in the banking industry, he obtained his Certified Bank Auditor designation and also worked in Special Assets managing a large loan portfolio of problem credits. This business experience gives Burt an invaluable background that he uses each day in his practical, cost-effective approach to solving legal problems.
With over 20 years experience in practicing law, Burt is recognized as an expert in assisting banks in restructuring troubled debt, reducing charge-offs, repossessing collateral, obtaining payoffs on non-accrual and poorly rated credits, and getting recoveries on charge-off loans. His current clients include among others: Reliant Bank, Renasant Bank, Mortgage Corporation of the South, Kirkland Financial, Bryant Bank, HOPE Credit Union and Fort McClellan Credit Union.
